Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteers are the heart of RAP, the Read Aloud Program.Read Aloud American is looking for volunteers to join its fall 2007 team of readers who read aloud to groups of children. RAP begin in mid-August at Nanaikapono Elementary in Nanakuli, August Ahrens Elementary in Waipahu, Aiea Elementary, and Linapuni Elementary in Honolulu. Volunteers read aloud to children at RAP sessions and mingle with parents and children in an informal, relaxed setting. Interested volunteers may also provide help in the RAP office, completing office tasks, preparing RAP materials, sorting books, etc. RAP is no-stress. Sessions are positive, relaxed, and fun for parents, teachers, volunteers, and above all - children. RAP volunteers share their love of reading. They are positive role models and offer children support and attention. |

![]() SIMPLE VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS
RAP sessions take place one early evening (5:45 to approximately 7:15) every other week for six sessions. Dinner is included. No need to cook on RAP nights!Fall programs start in August and end in late November before the Christmas/holiday rush. Spring programs start in the middle of January and end in early May. Readers - Regular readers commit to a specific grade level for all six sessions. This gives continuity to the program and allows children to develop a positive bond with their reader. Toddler Readers - Volunteers with early childhood experience needed for toddler (ages 2-3) and preschool (ages 3-4) groups. Please indicate experience in "comment" section of the volunteer registration form. Substitute Readers - Substitute reads step in when regular readers have to miss a session. |

Read Aloud America needs your help. We are looking for enthusiastic, organized, dependable individuals to become RAP coordinators for the upcoming spring semester at the following schools: Kalihi Elementary and Mililani Waena Elementary. We believe that individuals who have experienced RAP are our best source of referrals. The details about the job are on the attachment. It is a paid part time job that requires about 50 hours per semester per school. The position is available at each school and the individual may apply for one or more of the schools. If you, or someone you know, may be interested in becoming a RAP Coordinator, please have them call the Read Aloud office or email read@readaloudamerica.org.
